Comments: After nearly 20 years in the banking business, I was hired by one of my
customers and spent 13 years as Sr. VP & CFO of Big-D Corporation, a general contractor founded in
Ogden. When we moved the headquarters to Salt Lake City, I soon grew tired of the
commute. That, along with having a close friend diagnosed with colon cancer, convinced me it was
time to cash in my chips and enjoy life. So, just short of my 55th birthday, I did just that, to
have more time to spend with my wife (44 years in 2011!) and (4) grandchildren and just enjoy life.
Seems to me that at this stage of life, 'things' become less important and relationships become more
important.
After nearly ten years, I've yet to have a day I wake up and say 'I don't have anything to
do!' I highly recommend this retirement thing . . .
We bought a second home in Mesquite, Nevada in 2004and have really enjoyed getting away from the famous No.
Utah winters.
I've been treasurer of every reunion we've had, so like a fool, I volunteered to do the website for the
class (on top of treasurer), but I've actually enjoyed it -- in fact I just re-did the entire website to be
more versatile and cost us less money (thanks to Technovation Design in Ogden for hosting it for us).
