Barbara Sue Nelson Tracy

May 6, 1947 ~ August 2, 2022

Barbara Sue Nelson Tracy passed away on August 2, 2022. She was born on May 6, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to Dean Fishburn Nelson and Elizabeth Ann Clark Nelson. The family moved to Ogden, Utah, in the early 1950’s, when Dr. Nelson began a long career in OB-GYN medicine.

Barbara graduated from Ogden High School in 1965 and attended (then) Weber State College for 2 ½ years. She married Jay Leslie Tracy on August 12, 1968. They were divorced in 1987. In 1975, she began attending chariot races with her husband and son, and soon became the secretary of the Beehive Chariot / Cutter Racing Association for several years – a job she greatly enjoyed. Barbara began her career with IRS in 1966 and retired in 2006, after many years of service. She was a manager in Customer Service for many of those years, helping train employees on the complex work and the handling of incoming calls from taxpayers. She expected no less from her employees than what she was willing to give herself and often stepped up in their behalf.

Barbara loved both cats and dogs, but considered herself a DOG-PERSON. She provided good homes, love and care for Gretchen, Joey, Nicki, Bear, Dot, Lady and most recently Mollie over a 40-year period. In return, she received unconditional love and lots of little doggie kisses.

Barbara was always true to herself, caring and honest with those around her – which wasn’t always easy. But family and friends knew where they stood with her.

She loved to read and often was found with her nose in a mystery or thriller.

Barbara is survived by her son, Brad Tracy and his wife Jennifer, and two grandchildren, Brandon Tracy and Taylor Tracy; a brother, Dr. John C. Nelson (Linda), three nieces and four nephews and their spouses and children; and a best friend of 50 years, Maggie Hollingsworth. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother, James Scott Nelson; her nephew Matthew Nelson and her beloved grandson, Cameron Tracy; as well as her beloved pets, with the exception of Mollie.

The family wishes to thank those who cared for Barbara, including Kathie Alexander, David and Amie Presher and family, Michelle Dennis and Rudit Haugland.
