Comments: I once told friends during my senior year that one profession I would never go into was teaching. After getting my degree in Chemistry at Weber State, I attended graduate school at USU and BYU. While at BYU, I became certified in teaching in Junior Colleges and Secondary Public Education. My Chemistry teacher at OHS, David Carrigan, influenced my decision to go into teaching Chemistry in high schools. After 25 years of teaching in the classroom in Montana, Utah, Arizona, Germany, and England, I had to go on long-term disability with Post-Polio Syndrome in 1999.
My activity has taken a drastic change, leaving me now in a wheelchair. However, I still keep myself active camping with my wife of 40 years and our last daughter at home. I use an inflatable rubber boat with a small electric trolling motor to fish lakes, but still with a fly. I spend  a lot of time oil painting on various surfaces, including saw blades and glass. I also write poetry- 30 have been published in the US and 2 in England. My writing also led me to write a fictional novel that I am doing the finishing touches on now. I've also spent a great deal of time doing genealogy and helping others at our local Family History Center. I also do a lot of reading, so I do keep myself busy, but just not teaching or anything physical.
I don't look at my health problems as trials. They have been blessings in opening my eyes to others suffering from polio problems and into the hobbies that I have in painting the beauty of nature and just recently starting Scrimshaw.

Update: 7/2015.  On July 15 of this  year, my wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. We celebrated this at the Logan Temple where we married 50 years earlier. Later that day we had a great meal at J & D's Restaurant in Brigham City. The next day we attended an Opera ( Man of La Macha) in Logan.
