Justin “Geno” S. Hoskins

SLATERVILLE – Justin Skyler Hoskins, preferred name “Geno” (Gene Hoskins in school) passed away Friday, December 8, 2006 after a persistent battle for life against renal failure and cancer, a struggle well over 40 years, refusing to share his pain and suffering with anyone. The idea in his mind was not becoming a stressful burden to those who may care.

He was born December 27, 1946 in Ogden, to Boyd Isom Sr. and Mary Jean Peterson Hoskins. He grew up on somewhat of a farm, on the east bench near the mouth of Ogden Canyon where he helped raise rabbits, chickens, pigeons, and horses. He attended Taylor Elementary School, Central Junior High School while training after school as a plumber’s helper. He later graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber College where he completed plumbing theory, upholstery, and small engine repair.

He married Renae Ida Bowman in 1971. They had two children, Tara Joan Hoskins Allen and Heidi Jean Hoskins Palmer. They were later divorced. Thirteen years passed and he married Claudette Jean Chadwick on September 6, 1986 in Elko, Nevada. She had two children Christopher Douglas Hurst of Mountain Home, CA and Nicole Marie Hurst Brewer of Klamath Falls, OR.

Geno was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an Elder.

After joining the U.S. Navy he attended chemical, biological, and nuclear school, and specialty school in the field of firefighting and damage control, completing and certifying in all. Joining his duty floating duty station on the USS Benjamin Stoddard Guided Missile Destroyer he joined the Pipefitters and Boilers Division, later becoming a journeyman plumber in Ogden and the surrounding areas.

He had a natural flair for humor and was known as a workaholic always with a tool in hand, never straying far from his work. His inside hobbies stemmed from a musical group he had in the 60’s, playing the guitar, harmonica and singing. His outdoor hobbies were building street rods and working with horses. His participating sports included boxing, silver dragon kung-fu karate, and free-weight lifting.

Surviving are his wife Claudette of Slaterville; one son and three daughters, Christopher Douglas (Tammy) Hurst, Tara Joan Hoskins (John) Allen, Heidi Jean Hoskins (Nate) Palmer, Nicole Marie Hurst (Brent) Brewer, and 12 grandchildren.

Also surviving are his mother Afton L. Hoskins, one brother and three sisters, Boyd I. Hoskins Jr., Lorna Earl, Sherry Gallegos and Pamela Archuleta.

Geno was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol Jean Hoskins Willard, brother Gary Boyd Hoskins, sister Linda Kae Hoskins Headings and his grandparents.
